Guidance and Info

When choosing your hardwood flooring it is essential to take into account not only its appearance but the hardness as well. It is worth choosing a harder wood species rather than a softer one for areas where hard wear is expected: children playing, pets, stiletto heels and a busy entrance hall.

In the table below the hardness of different wood species are compared to oak whose reference value is 100. The Brinell scale is the hardness value the wood species has acquired in a standardized test. The higher the figure the harder the wood.

The hardness of wood is measured according to the Brinell EN 1534:2000 standard and given as Brinnell value. In the measurement a steel ball 10mm is pressed against the finished hardwood board at a force of 100 kg. The resultant indentation is measured, and the result us calculated as defined standard. The Brinell value is the average of several measured results.

Some Interior Designers Tips:

No other single home making decision can so radically and completely change the look of a room. The same piece of furniture that before sat indented into a carpet becomes renewed to the eye, as an object that is presented in a gallery.
