Aftercare

One thing is vital for success when laying a solid plank floor and this is correct installation. We must first understand that wood is a hydroscopic material which will absorb or lose moisture as the environment surrounding the wood changes and it will eventually achieve equilibrium with its surroundings once they are stable. Any change in the moisture content of the hardwood floor will cause it to expand or contract - an increase will cause expansion and therefore cupping and a decrease will make the wood contract causing shrinkage. So it can be seen that the performance of a wooden floor depends on the correct combination of factors - the correct initial moisture content of the wood, the correct site conditions and the maintenance of suitable, stable conditions during the laying and over the life of the floor.

The range of Moisture content of our wide boards is between 8%-11% and this Moisture content will be right for most homes except where under floor heating is installed and so we do not guarantee or recommend using anything above 145mm if you wish to install wide planks over underfloors heating please look at our new range of wide plank engineered planks. ECO-2.

When flooring arrives on site it should immediately be stored carefully in dry heated conditions with an ambient RH of about 40% on a dry platform and left to acclimatise only if conditions are correct.

Maintenance

TRUNK solid wood and engineered floors are easy to sweep and can be mopped with water and a non-abrasive floor cleaner as required. Then as you feel necessary we recommend you use Dr Shutz wood floor polish, which will sheen revive your floor when you feel its getting dull. This unique product especially devised so as your floor finish will last a lifetime, once this product is used regularly. This will work with your varnish to build up the wear layer. Normal household dirt and spillages have no lasting effect on the surface. The house dust mite, which thrives in carpeted areas, will be no more, where wooden floors are laid.
